“How to Break up a Wedding” by Katharine McNair is taking on the Fresh Fruits Festival Main Stage this May! With a hysterical plotline and a radiant cast, this show is posed to amaze all in attendance.

Katharine McNair started writing “How to Break up a Wedding” t six years ago as a screenplay. In the years since she has adapted the show for the stage and is now eager to present the three sisters who carry out a series of hijinks in hopes of breaking up their brother’s wedding.

Featured in the cast are Gretchen Poole, Elle Nelson, Steven Isaac Rice, Margo Hera, Rebecca Kinard, Sophia Jaeger, Sara Beneke, Serg Lockhart, Hila Kremer, Erin McMahon, Mekai McFarlane, and Jared Wilder. This cast is beyond excited, not only to present this story to the world but to be a part of the Fresh Fruits Festival as a whole.

The Fresh Fruits Festival is presented by All Out Arts and created in conjunction with New Village Productions. This festival is meant to showcase the unique talent, diversity, and creativity of the LGBTQ community through the sharing of stories and art. As cast member Sara Beneke puts it,

When asked why the Fresh Fruits Festival is the perfect place to present this piece, the cast has plenty to say. One common sentiment among the group is the positive and whimsical presentation of queer stories in McNair’s play. As cast member Elle Nelson puts it, “The importance of a safe space for queer expression and joy and shared experiences can’t be overstated.”

“The tragic gay trope doesn’t show the entire experience of being queer and being a part of a story where queerness just ‘is’ and is not necessarily a central plot point is so fun!” says, Elle, an NYC-based actress.

Sara Beneke echoed these sentiments by pointing out the recent overwhelming success of other shows and media that celebrate queer joy. “People are craving these kinds of stories,” she says, “the overwhelming positivity and joy of stories like these are everything.”

Steven Isaac Rice adds to the commentary, “You get to see other works from peers around us! If there’s anything that these past few years have taught me, it’s that humans thrive off connection.” Rice, is a professional actor who has spent time on traveling tours as well as in various productions in New York City. His keen understanding of the beauty of human connection shows us how this cast carries the essence of McNair’s story.

“How to Break Up a Wedding” will be featured as a Main Stage production at the Fresh Fruits Festival for a limited time. You can see this fabulous production on May 2 @ 6:30 PM, May 4 @ 3:15 PM, and May 5 @ 2:30 PM at The Wild Project, 125 E 3rd Street, New York City. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
