Lindsay Sanchez talks of her musical journey that put her here while Staci Rosenberg-Simons did it all on her own!:
Lindsay: This is tricky. My whole life I only viewed myself as a musician. I always did musicals but the acting is new. I am trying to be more well rounded and there’s so much fun to have in the other mediums. It’s still hard though.
Staci: I am self taught. Everything that I’ve done I feel like I have imposter syndrome. I haven’t trained, I haven’t studied. Any acting I do is just because I have a love for it. To me that’s the requirement to be an artist., You have to love it. You have to have a reason for it. It’s an escape. I love being someone else, being someone else, and doing things I would never do. I love make believe.
What is your creative process?
Lindsay: When I have something that I want to delve into and learn, I will take every spare minute I have to work on it, mess around with it, play with it. Typically I do this by putting on music and singing – whether it has to do with music or not. It just helps me relax and lets me focus on doing the job that I need to do.
Staci: Well, I read the script. I try to get an idea on who that person is. I do research. For this role specifically, I researched “What is a chief of staff?” There’s never been a female chief of staff before. It’s important to know the character you are playing is a ground break or trendsetter. You also need to know what their day to day is like. All of that impacts your movement, posture, and feelings that go on behind what the script says.
do you think you’ll make a difference in the world by doing this play so close to an election time? –
Lindsay: I f*cking hope so!!!! I hope that everyone who sees this play also sees the parallels. Yes this is a farce and it’s making light of everything, I hope they see that these are serious times and it needs attention.
Staci: I certainly hope so. Yes. That was the hope because I think art imitates life and life is imitating art way too much. I am really praying we get through to people in a different way.
on that note, do you feel an extra sense of responsibility- or even bravery- and doing a show of this nature during such a climate around the world?
Lindsay: I feel lucky to do it. I don’t feel bravery. It should and has to be done. I am not afraid.
Staci: I think anyone who speaks up right now is very brave and we need more people speaking up.
What do you hope the audience takes away from this show?
Lindsay: I hope they laugh and have a good time. I hope they realize that the “village” that it takes is usually composed of women. I hope they take away how much women do and how unsung they are – all the time in every profession.
Staci: What I am really hoping is they can see what happens when people really do work together, against all odds, regardless of who they are, and wanting the best, we can overcome a lot of shit that is certainly coming our way. We need to. We need to have hope, I want people to leave hopeful.
What’s next?
Lindsay: More auditions coming down the pipe and just keep working on my craft.
Staci: I don’t know – these things usually present themselves in some way. I am coming off a three show run, so I think I am ready to see my friends and family. I am hoping to take a break and see other people perform.
