New York, NY – As the digital age continues its rapid expansion, the lines between human existence and artificial intelligence blur, prompting critical conversations about our collective future. Stepping into this nuanced dialogue is actor, singer, and dancer Franca Rosenblatt, who is set to captivate audiences in Ripple Effect Artists’ groundbreaking immersive dance spectacle, “AI Vs. Humanity: The Experience.” This limited engagement, running from June 11th to 15th, promises an electrifying exploration of technology’s profound impact on our lives.
Rosenblatt, a New York City-based artist with a robust background in theater and performance, brings her unique perspective to this timely production. A graduate of UCLA’s School of Theater, Film, and Television, she has graced stages across California, New Jersey, and New York in musicals like Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (u/s Ella) and Tuck Everlasting, alongside various workshops and film projects. Her passion for “stirring the pot and uncovering love in unconventional spaces and stories” aligns perfectly with the thought-provoking nature of “AI Vs. Humanity: The Experience.”
“AI Vs. Humanity: The Experience,” produced by the socially conscious theater company Ripple Effect Artists, Inc. (REA), is more than just a dance performance; it’s an immersive journey designed to ignite conversation and provoke thought. Through powerful choreography set to the iconic sounds of Daft Punk, the production delves into the escalating landscape of information overload, drawing parallels to Elmer Rice’s seminal play, The Adding Machine, and even incorporating comedic improv for a touch of levity.
For Rosenblatt, the exploration of AI is a deeply personal one. “My immediate reaction is to fear it,” she admits, expressing concerns about its environmental impact and the potential for it to diminish our capacity for independent decision-making. However, her involvement in the project has fostered a more nuanced understanding. “On the other hand, AI does have the capacity to do some pretty incredible things, and I am definitely starting to warm up to learning more about how it can positively impact us, and how to use it in the safest and most effective way.”
The decision to manifest this complex theme through dance is highly significant. Rosenblatt emphasizes the timeless and inherently human nature of the art form. “Dance has been around since the beginning of time. It is an art form that AI absolutely cannot replicate the heart of,” she explains. “I think the visceral use of our physical bodies is a startling and beautiful visual to show that AI can replace a lot of things, but it cannot replace putting sweat, energy, time, and heart into a piece.”
Approaching a role in an immersive, movement-based production like this allows Rosenblatt to tap into her authentic self. “I love these sorts of projects because it tends to mold to the artists that the work is being put on,” she shares. “Instead of having a character put on me, it feels like I’m being asked to show up as myself and figure out how to communicate my own experience through the lens of the movement of the three wonderful choreographers. I’ve figured out that less is truly more – I show up with my experiences and truth, and that is enough.”
The journey of exploring “AI Vs. Humanity” has been transformative for Rosenblatt. “I’ve definitely become more open to the idea of AI being a good thing in some regards, whereas before I started this project I was vehemently against it 100% of the time,” she reveals. “Listening to Mr. and Mrs. Zero [likely referring to characters or concepts within the production referencing The Adding Machine] has got me thinking more about the exciting possibilities regarding the use of AI, and I know I’ll take that new mindset with me after the show is over (while still staying wary, of course!).”
Ripple Effect Artists, Inc. (REA) is a 501(c)3 theatre company dedicated to addressing injustice and fostering social impact through art. Their productions, often accompanied by talk-back discussions with educators and advocacy groups, aim to cultivate empathy and inspire audiences “from APATHY to ACTION.” “AI Vs. Humanity: The Experience” is a prime example of their commitment to engaging with pressing societal issues.
As for what’s next for Franca Rosenblatt, the future is an open canvas. She is currently assisting in the final stages of a pitch deck and pilot for a new TV show, and is co-writing another pilot. Alongside these creative endeavors, she continues to hone her craft through classes, auditions, and connecting with fellow artists in New York City and beyond.
“AI Vs. Humanity: The Experience” runs from June 11th to 15th, with evening performances at 7:00 p.m. from June 11th to 14th, and matinees on June 14th at 2:00 p.m. and June 15th at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are available at .
