Gina Vicari joins Modern Classics Theatre for “Five Lesbians Eating Quiche”

I saw a wonderful play last night at B.A.C.A. in Lindenhurst produced by the Modern Classics Theater Company.

The evening started out fun. We were greeted at the door by women in 1950S period costumes, calling us sisters, and setting the mood. We were asked if we wanted to participate in the show and we agreed. We got our programs and our name tags and took a seat. The stage was a bunker in the 1950s during the Cold war with basically a heavy door and a window. Before the show started, a couple of the actresses came out and chatted with us, really setting the mood for the interactiveness of the show.

It is the 1956 Annual Quiche Breakfast of the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein.

Without giving too much away there was a lot of innuendo in the humor and the energy was fantastic.

It speaks of things that are unspeakable at that time and we in the audience are encouraged to sing or shout out. At times even made a little fun of.

I had a ball. I thought all the ladies did very well in their parts and I found out they are sharing roles with other actresses. So if you can make it to the next shows you’ll see a few different actresses. I am sure with the energy of these women and the funny lines it will be as terrific as this show was.

What I loved about the cast was they were all ages.  The actress who played Vern (Meredith Spencer) was a strong center (She plays the part for all performances). Deborah Rupy who played Wren moved the meeting along.  I thought Chloe Eizabeth as Ginny was brave in her attack of that Quiche! It was hard not to fall in love with Dale, played with great energy by Valerie Stazzone.  And Lulie destined to repopulate the earth was strongly played by Linda Luckmann.

Afterwards we got to meet the ladies and they served mini quiches cupcakes and orange juice all around a fabulous evening.

I think I might go back and see it again.
